Floyd Arthur Smith, Jr.

Mr. Floyd "Johnny" Arthur Smith, Jr. of Herkimer, formerly of Dolgeville, passed away on July 10, 2026, at the Foltsbrook Center Nursing Home in Herkimer, with family by his side.

He was born on March 24, 1942, in Hallsville, NY, the son of Floyd A. Smith, Sr., and Marion Mills Smith, both of whom predeceased him. He attended Fort Plain Schools. After his schooling, he joined the US Army, where he proudly served his country.

Johnny had worked for Ideal Woodworking in Little Falls as a lathe operator until retiring at 62 years of age. After this, he went to work at the Fulton Co. transfer station in Oppenheim. He stayed here for another fourteen years.

Everyone who knew Johnny knew he loved going to flea markets as a vendor. He sold his wood crafts, leather belts, and buckles. People would lovingly refer to him as the "belt man" or "Smitty".

He enjoyed the company and love of his life, Carolyn H. Johnson-Bullock Smith, for over 35 years until her passing on June 8, 2017.

He was also predeceased by his half-brother David John, sisters, Marion and Elizabeth, and two half-sisters, Jenny Mae and Leah.

Surviving are his children, Tammy, Timothy (Ellen), Sherry, William, step-sons Jerry, and Richard Bullock his grandchildren, Jessica, Joshua, Bethany, Jeremiah, Daniella, Kent (Megan), Kyle, Autum, Evan, Carson, William, and Devin. Also special great-grandchildren, Colton and McKenna. Also survived by several sisters and many nieces and nephews. 

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, from 5-7 PM at the Chapman Moser Funeral Home, 42 North Ann Street, Little Falls, NY 13365. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at 2 PM, with an hour prior for visiting also at the same location. Interment will take place at the Salisbury Rural Cemetery directly after the funeral service.
