Mr. John J. Hart, 87, formerly of Porteus Street, Little Falls, most recently of Valley Drive, Herkimer, NY, passed away on the evening of January 23, 2024, with his family at Valley Health Services, Herkimer, NY.

John was born on July 9, 1936, in Little Falls, NY, the son of Joseph Hart and Mary Krasko Hart, who predeceased him. He graduated from St. Mary's Academy, Class of 1954.

He served in the US Army in the Korean War from 1954 to 1956.

John was a communicant of Holy Family Parish, Little Falls, NY.

He was a member of the Italian American War Veterans, DeCarlo-Staffo Post #8, and the American Legion Post #31. He served as City Alderman for the 3rd ward for many years. He enjoyed hunting, boating, and telling jokes in his spare time.

In 1999, he retired after 15 years from the Burrows Paper Corp., Little Falls, where he had supervised the recycling department. Before that, he had been employed for 25 years as a compositor for the Utica Daily Press.

On April 28, 1957, at the former St. Joseph Church, Little Falls, NY, he married the former Dolores Zuccaro.

John was predeceased in death by his parents and grandson, Andrew Congdon, and sister-in-law, Priscilla Hart.

Survivors include his wife, Dolores Z. Hart; sons Brian (Bobbie Miles) Hart, Bernard and his wife Kathy Hart; daughter Bonnie and her husband Les Congdon; brothers Charles F. and his wife Priscilla Hart; 8 grandchildren, Miranda Congdon, Adam (Sara) Congdon, Allison (Alex) Fischer, Aidan Hart, Colin Hart, Laura Hart, and Mitch Hart; granddaughter in law Ashley Congdon; great-grandchildren Ethan Congdon, Brianna Dygert, Madison Congdon, Lucas Congdon, Alexander Congdon, Emma Congdon, Haley Congdon, "Poppy" Fisher, Henry Fisher, Felicity Fisher; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In keeping with John's wishes, there will be no calling hours. A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at Our Holy Family Parish, 763 E. Main Street, Little Falls, NY 13365. Burial will take place at Mountian View Memorial Gardens at a later date.
